Understanding Greensboro's geography
Why Greensboro's drive times defy radius math.
I-40 and I-85 merge through the urban core and then split again, which compresses 15-minute isochrones to the north and south where surface streets dominate, while extending them significantly east toward Burlington and west toward High Point. The absence of a true outer beltway means crosstown trips funnel through a handful of chokepoints near the I-40/I-73 interchange.
Franchise site-selectors should focus the Battleground Avenue corridor north of downtown, where affluent suburban density meets strong daytime traffic, and the Wendover/Holden Road node near the coliseum. The Guilford College Road corridor in northwest Greensboro is underserved relative to its household density.
