Understanding Lincoln's geography
Why Lincoln's drive times defy radius math.
Salt Creek runs through the southwestern and southeastern edges of the city, with limited crossing points that can add minutes to south-side trips not reflected in straight-line distance. I-80 bisects the metro east-west and connects Lincoln to Omaha 50 miles east, but the corridor itself has limited commercial development due to limited interchange spacing.
The fastest-growing residential corridors are northwest Lincoln along West O Street and north toward Waverly via US-6, where new subdivisions are absorbing University of Nebraska overflow demand. The 27th Street and Pine Lake Road intersection in south Lincoln is the metro's top commercial node for new franchise entries.
